Case Studies: Redesign/Re-architectThe University of Texas Libraries: a welcoming placeThe goal of the University of Texas Libraries redesign was to fit into UT's color scheme (burnt orange), communicate an approachable, friendly image and hide some of the 70+ links on the home page.
I reviewed existing usability testing data and extensive site usage statistics. I then conducted exercises with students, faculty and staff designed to learn more about how users interacted with the site. The new site was smaller in size than the old (desite the large image), easier to maintain, and had the flexibility to incorporate the new search and discovery tools in which the library was investing. The design was done by the University of Texas Office of Public Affairs, and the coding by me. See the site before and after.
